Building What Lasts Forever

Jun 28, 2026    James Kelly

This powerful message invites us to examine a fundamental question that shapes our entire existence: What are we building, and who are we building it for? Drawing from Matthew 6, we're challenged to move beyond temporary earthly treasures and invest in what truly lasts—the kingdom of God. The imagery of David dancing before the ark with all his might reminds us that worship isn't about sophistication or performance; it's about wholehearted devotion to God's presence. We're called to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, which means making Him our priority above comfort, success, or popularity. The illustration of pressure washing—where some dirt comes off easily from a distance, but stubborn stains require getting up close—beautifully captures our spiritual journey. The closer we draw to God, the more powerfully He can work in our lives. We're reminded that an empty house is beautiful because it has room for new things, and similarly, we must empty ourselves of habits, mindsets, and even good things that aren't aligned with God's purpose so He can fill us completely. This isn't just about Sunday worship; it's about daily preparation, daily communication with the Father, and allowing Christ to transform how we treat people, speak, and live every moment.
