What is Baptism?
Baptism is a public declaration of your faith in Jesus. It’s a symbolic act that shows you’ve decided to follow Him — representing the death of your old life and the beginning of a new life in Christ. We practice full immersion in water, just like Jesus was baptized, as a powerful outward sign of the inward change He’s made in your heart. It’s not about being perfect — it’s about saying yes to Jesus and going all in with your faith.
Why should I be Baptized?
Baptism is a step of obedience and a powerful way to show that your life has been changed by Jesus. It doesn’t make you saved — only faith in Jesus does that — but it’s how we publicly declare our decision to follow Him. Jesus Himself was baptized, and He calls His followers to do the same. It’s a way to go public with your faith, celebrate your new life in Christ, and show the world you’re all in.
How should I be Baptized?
At New Church, we baptize by full immersion in water — just like Jesus was (Matthew 3:16) and how the early church practiced it. The word "baptize" in the original Greek literally means "to immerse" or "to dip under." Immersion symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus (Romans 6:4), and it visually represents your old life being buried and your new life rising in Christ. It’s a powerful and personal way to follow Jesus’ example and obey His command
What if I want my child to be Baptized?
At New Church, we believe baptism is a personal decision made when someone is old enough to understand and choose to follow Jesus. For babies and little ones, we offer Baby Dedications—a special time where parents commit to raising their child in God’s love and teachings, and the church community pledges to support them.
When children are ready to take that next step in their faith, they are warmly invited to sign up for baptism too. We’re here to help guide and celebrate every step of your child’s faith journey!
When should I be Baptized?
The Bible shows baptism happens after a person puts their faith in Jesus and decides to follow Him. In Acts 2:38, Peter says, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.” Baptism is the next step after accepting Jesus—it’s a way to publicly show your new faith. There’s no waiting period or perfect time; the moment you’re ready to say “yes” to Jesus, baptism is the natural next step!
What if I have been Baptized before?
If you’ve been baptized before, that’s wonderful! While baptism is traditionally a one-time celebration of faith, at New Church we believe you don’t have to be baptized only once. Some choose to be baptized again as a meaningful way to reaffirm their commitment to Jesus or to take that step in a new season of life. If you’re unsure or want to talk about what baptism means for you, we’d love to connect and support you on your faith journey!
